![]() Words fail to describe the generous, warm and memorable welcome we were given by Waldo and Amileidis - their casa is a pearl. And it's named Lovely Sea Pearl |
There could be no better than the master of the house Waldo to help us discover the region and Amileidis the lady of the "lovely sea pearl" to give us all the comforts of hospitality of an outstanding hostess with a good sense of humor. The casa has the look of a modern urban-euro house all the while a Cienfuegos Classic. The couple offers, both on the ground floor, along a lovely and ample corridor two large and superb air-conditioned bed rooms (with renovated camas and a beautiful antique), each with private ensuite, one with a modern compact shower, fan table and a window opening onto the corridor, a nice touch. In the rooftop garden, the plants are arranged in a nature re-created and protected by a canvas, a modern ranchon. A great spot to enjoy the pleasures of the palate and some views without imposing to (nonexistent) neighbors and all this downtown. The roof is ideal for eating, relaxing or playing with a view of a portion of the city and one of the bay. According to Waldo (and we wholly concur), his wife Amileidis prepares "fabulous breakfasts and delicious dinners," from the best kitchen in Cuba, according to the Asturian Llaranes on trip advisor in September 2009. Garage for car customers. Rates: 25-30cuc per bedroom. |

"The house is very centrally-located, just 5 minutes walk from Parque Jose Marti. The rooms are large, air conditioned, with bathroom and hot water adjustable, very rare in Cuba. There is a garage available for guests and also a lovely terrace where meals can be served. "Amileidis and Waldo were very informative and helpful and helped me organize tours and other activities. On my first night in Cuba, I dined in a paladar, and the next night, I dined at Waldo's casa. Dinner at Bella Perla Marina was so well with such a good value for money I ate the other night at the casa. "I enjoyed my stay with Amileidis and Waldo, I stayed two nights longer than originally planned. I would definitely recommend Bella Perla Marina to all future travelers to Cienfuegos. With casa owner Waldo of Bella Perla Marina fame, along with his botanist gardener (master of the roof) Jorge, we drove 10 km north of Cienfuegos to visit a private garden with no less than 1,200 varieties of orchids created from 70 originals seeds, as well as malanguillas and begonias. The village of Palmira (pop. 33, 425) has another smaller flower garden but the one attracting all the atention (and about 4,000 visitors a year) is in the backyard of Omar Aloma Moreno, behind an anonymous facade along main street. Having started quite young at the Jardin Botanico de Cienfuegos, Omar decided to branch out (unintended pun), starting his own private botanical adventure 25 years ago backed by his Masters in Agriculture Science. After researching lesser known areas of the Sierra de Escambray mountains, Omar found an heretofore unknown variety of the Adiantum ferns; so, since 2009, the Adiantum alomae is in the official entries, of the fern variety. The vegetal space behind the house exudes with natural exhuberance with a stream, benches and a Japanese-Garden type of zenful peace, esconced by the natural belleza of the Macradenia. ![]() macradenia multiflora The patient explanations were provided by two attentive women, Odalis and Ana; a government-supported program to help youngsters learn Public Speaking and Tourist Relations uses Omar's facilities. ![]() |
