Juan is a writer and member of the UNEAC and has a vast knowledge of his hometown, its history and its traditions (as well as santeria and other afro-cuban beliefs); he is the managing director of the annual Caribbean culture festival held in July.
He is not only a precious guide of Santiago de Cuba but as an architect — his profession — he can organise visits based on that and other themes. The couple's casa is within walking distance from Parque Cespédes, its cathedral, its Casa de la Trova, its Casa de la Musica and various museums. The modern building stands on two floors : a vast living room with paintings by the city's artists, an open kitchen cum dining room, an indoor patio with ornemental plants, notably orchids. The bedroom has it own mezzanine : on the first level, a washroom with shower (toilet, changing room) and on the roof-terrace with its sunny views of the surroundings, the air-conditioned bedroom.
