LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION The Universidad a block away, boasts a beautiful and quiet campus, [Photos here], a remarkably quiet place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown. Calle San Lazaro goes downhill from the steps of the U, crosses the whole Centro area and goes all the way to the Malecon. Going down San Miguel towards and across Infanta, one can walk about a dozen blocks to the Capitolio and Parque Central and then reach Habana Vieja. Then walking on Infanta towards the Malecon you reach an open-air fruit and vegetable market, then the busy corner where the offices of Cubana de Aviacion, Aero Caribbean, LTU and other airlines right by the Banco Metropolitano for money exchange are located and further up, the Intl Press Center with its Internet connections. When her casa has no vacancy, Angela refers clients to neighbours : see bottom of page. So the three casas can accomodate a group of 10 travellers, within steps of each other. |
o The ground floor entrance shows off the little sala with its high arches; next the dining room (comedor) and the tiny kitchen and a little patio. On the other side are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Angela and her husband live alone on the second floor. Isbel, Angela's sister helps with the daily chores. o The two bedrooms, air-conditioned, are well-appointed (night tables, dresser, chair, fan) and comfortable. One has its own tiny toilet and shower. The other uses the ground floor toilet, shower room, regular sized. |
o Meals (superbly prepared) are served in the comedor, usually in front of the tv hanging on the wall : when the novelas (soaps) are on, guests have to enjoy, albeit in silence. Novelas are the modern religion of Latin America and Cuba is no exception. o Cute little patio, International phone service (no operator is needed to call overseas); rates are usually 25-30cuc according to season; breakfasts, 3, dinners 7 and up. Car parking is always available right in front. o Angela is all-business, all the time. She can help you find anything or any service you may require to make your stay enjoyable. Her pastime, when she is not visiting her sons in Europe or relatives in Cuba, is house decorating. Bring her some magazines in Spanish ! |
